"I have always been considered a “BIG GIRL”. Even as a kid I was always bigger than other kids, not obese but always bigger than most. I slimmed down during college but after marriage and kids, I lost control of my weight and cemented my terrible eating habits. It wasn’t until 1999 that I decided to do something about my weight. I started working out and taking diet pills. I lost almost 40 lbs and never looked better but started to have heart and blood pressure problems so I stopped. Soon after this, I broke my knee and had to have a series of surgeries and time on crutches adding up to almost 6 months. Later in the year came the sudden death of a family member. With the combination of these events I allowed myself to get very out of shape again as well as weak from over 4 knee surgeries and now advanced arthritis.

In 2007, after a failed knee surgery I decided to join the gym. I wanted to get strength back and lose weight. I made a go of it on my own but felt like I was making very little progress. I knew I needed help. It was a short time after that I enlisted the help of my trainer Ali.

I have now lost almost 25 pounds and lowered my body fat about 6%. It has taken me more time than I expected but this time I am finally making progress without pills. Ali has been very patient with me while keeping me working on improving. It’s hard to deal with the arthritis but I am determined that lowering my weight will help prolong any further joint surgeries. One of my biggest roadblocks has been the realization that I have to change the way I eat. It has been a harder challenge than lifting weights. Ali introduced me to an online way to get a hold of tracking my eating habits. Wow! What an eye opener it was to see just how much I was eating everyday. I now have this better under control. I plan to continue to train with Ali and am finally doing some of the work on my own. It is my hope that continuing my slow and steady plan will get me to my final goal."
